BAREFOOT

October 2020

Released on October 9, 2020, Barefoot was João Barreto's first release. This album is a 5-track EP and was recorded at home during the COVID-19 quarantine. It can be in the jazz/soundtrack genre and a bit Latin. Most songs have improvisation parts, where the artist creates some melodies at the exact moment he plays. João says "That's the fun of jazz!".

Barefoot started in a dance project with dancer and choreographer Inês Costa, who asked me to compose 5 themes for her project.

Barefoot music has elements of Latin jazz and Dialogues is influenced by Cape Verdean music.

The melody of 'Waterdrops', 'Sid the seed' and 'Barefoot' emerged in improvisations during rehearsals later improved and worked on.

Author's note:

"This album is called Barefoot because I love playing the piano barefoot and all the songs on this album were recorded barefoot. This name also has a minimalist point of view of traveling with little logistics. This can symbolize my music career, where I start barefoot and alone. When I play Barefoot, I imagine myself barefoot, during this journey of mine, in a place somewhere in Latin America."
